A child escaped injury in a crash on I-95 in Middletown.

Pennsylvnaia State Police based out of the Trevose barracks said a 36-year-old woman from West Grove, Chester County was asleep behind the wheel of her 1999 Chevrolet Malibu Saturday night around 11:50 p.m. when she slammed into another vehicle. The struck vehicle was an empty Ford Explorer parked on the shoulder near the Woodbourne Road overpass.

The woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was injured and a 4-year-old boy in a child safety seat avoided injury, state police said. The extent of the woman’s injuries were unknown as of Tuesday, but state police confirmed the boy was examined by hospital staff.

A state police investigation determined the woman fell asleep and her Malibu drifted into the shoulder where the parked vehicle was.

The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad transported the woman and boy to St. Mary Medical Center.
