Brrrr: Sub-Freezing Cold Bursts Into Region

It’s about to get really cold.

Forecasters are calling for temperatures to drop to the single digits Wednesday night as more cold air moves into the region.

Here’s the forecast from the National Weather Service:

  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening.
  • Wednesday: A chance of flurries between noon and 5pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Blustery, with a west wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -7. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. Wind chill values as low as -9. West wind 11 to 15 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph.
  • Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 32. Breezy.
  • Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 17.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 26.
  • Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
  • Monday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Monday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Tuesday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

In preparation for the cold, Bucks County officials issued a “Code Blue” deliberation through Sunday.  The Code Blue authorizes The EMA on-call churches – Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol, Trinity Episcopal Church in Buckingham and West Swamp Mennonite Church in Quakertown – to open their emergency shelters for the homeless. The on-call churches will coordinate transportation, temporary shelter, food and other necessities.
