The Langhorne Council for the Arts has found a new, fun and creative way to raise funds for their student scholars.
The group, which promotes art and culture throughout the local community, gives scholarships to students in sixth to eleventh grade who wish to pursue extra curricular activitiesย involved in art, theater, dance or others.

“If they have the need for financial support to do these programs, we give them grants,” said group President Pat Mervine. “We were running out of money for the scholarships and then we realized that Langhorne really loves their dogs, so many people only know each other from walking their dogs.”
It was then that the group came up with the idea to create a dog calendar for residents to pin up in the new year. The calendar is titled ‘Every Dog Has Its Day’.
The group which charged $5 for an entry, received 77 entries by local dog owners. Locals and dog owners across the country then paid $1 per vote online or by mail to vote for their favorites. Mervine said the top 12 dogs were chosen to represent each month, but all 77 dogs are included somewhere throughout the calendar.

Langhorne’s Council for the Arts was successful in raising enough money to continue their scholarship program for yet another year. “It was very successful not only in monetary terms, but also for people to find out about council,” Mervine said. “There were many people who didn’t even know we existed until the calendars came out.”
The calendar is still available online and at Judy’s Corner at 127 South Bellevue Avenue for $15.ย To find outย more information about the group, visit their website here.
