Bristol Township School District officials said there are currently no plans to cut the Harry S. Truman High School Marching Band.

The program, which receives part of its funding from the school district, is currently not on the chopping block, according to superintendent Dr. Sam Lee.  He added that budget discussions for the 2014 to 2015 school have not yet taken place.

Parents and marching band supporters spoke at the December 15 school board meeting and asked the district not to cut funding for the program.

Board members rebutted by telling the concerned group that there are no planned cuts for the marching band. Board member Earl Bruck said the current district funding for the band is in place until a new budget is approved in June, as mandated b y state law.

During public comment, band supporters talked of the band’s accomplishments and how it benefited students and the community. Levittown resident Woody Summers said the program is “good PR for Bristol Township.”

Previously, the indoor color guard had to be cut due to a lack of funding from the cash-strapped district. Parents have noted the marching band goes to less away games than other local high school bands.
