UPDATED: SWAT Standoff Escalated After Man Shot At Officers, Cops Say

District Judge Jan Vislosky raised 37-year-old Dwayne Achuff’s bail from 10 percent of $50,000 to 10 percent of $500,000. The original bail was set early Sunday when Achuff was arraigned before on-call District Judge Charles W. Baum.

Dwayne Achuff, 37, was arraigned early Sunday morning by District Judge Charles W. Baum on charges of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, aggravated assault, propulsion of a missile into an occupied vehicle and reckless endangerment. His bail was set at 10 percent $50,000.

Achuff is five years older than police initially stated.

About 30 SWAT team members and numerous other first responders filled the Pennwood Crossing mobile home park off Penn Valley Road in Falls Township Saturday evening.

The large and well-armed police response was summoned after Dwayne Achuff, 32, is alleged to have fired a gun at a neighbor’s residence and then barricaded himself inside his trailer at 4138 Davis Drive, according to police. Lt. Hank Ward said officers responded around 5 p.m. Saturday and called up SWAT officers from the South Central Emergency Response Team about two hours later.

Achuff, who was set to be charged overnight, fire four shots from his gun at officers interviewing neighbors who reported the initial shooting. The two officers who were fired on were unhurt but unable to return fire due to the amount of bystanders nearby, police said.

The 32 year old then again barricaded himself in his trailer, police said.

The SWAT team was able to break three windows and order Achuff to surrender via the loudspeaker of an armored Lenco BearCat truck, but Achuff refused to acknowledge the growing police presence, Ward said. The barricaded man is also reported to have ignored a flash bang device that was deployed and made a loud bang throughout the “D” section of the complex.

Achuff avoided all negotiations until speaking with his father on the phone, when he agreed to negotiate, said Ward.

SWAT operators were able to take Achuff into custody without incident around 8:40 p.m.

Ward said officers had previous interactions with Achuff, and they believed he was upset over a dispute with mobile home park management. The lieutenant also said they suspect Achuff may have been intoxicated.

There were about five houses evacuated on Davis Drive, according to a resident who was impacted.

Detectives from Falls were summoned to the scene and were working to obtain a search warrant for the Davis Drive trailer as of 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fire trucks from Levittown Fire Company No. 1 provided lighting at the scene and the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad provided medical teams. Law enforcement from Bensalem, Bristol Township, Doylestown and the Bucks County Detectives also assisted Falls police at the scene.

No injuries were reported.
