The Neshaminy School District’s closing hearing for Levittown’s Samuel Everitt Elementary School will be held Monday evening at the Maple Point Middle School auditorium.

The hearing will start at 7 p.m. An overview of the plans for the building, a reason why the district is looking to close the school and other issues will all be address.

The hearing does not lock the school board into closing Everitt, which was constructed in 1954. District officials said the closure would be voted on later by the board.
The district could close Everitt as part of a “roadmap” to consolidate Neshaminy and hopefully save money over time. The building has been picked due to its age and declining enrollment. In the next few years, the district will likely also look to close Oliver Heckman Elementary School in Langhorne and Lower Southampton Elementary School. Residents have been vocal in their pleas to keep the school open over the past year.
The district recently held an Act 34 hearing on a proposed new kindergarten through fourth grade building at the site Tawanka School in Lower Southampton.The board has yet to vote to build the new school.

Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) upgrades to Herbert Hoover Elementary School, Albert Schweitzer Elementary School and Carl Sandburg Middle School were recently approved.
The Bucks County Intermediate Unit in 2013 said they would be interested in renting the Everitt building if the school district chose to redevelop their current home, the Tawanka School.

The district still needs to get a $50 to $55 million bond to pay for the new school and upgrades to the other buildings.
