Well-known for its beautiful and historic covered bridges, Bucks County is home to the popular Covered Bridge Self-Guided Driving Tour. Hop in the car and make stops at 10 of the 12 remaining bridges. The covered bridges used to be known as “kissing bridges”, so bring your loved one for a smooch on the bridges with gorgeous Bucks County as the backdrop. Grab your keys and hit the road as you wind your way throughout the county in this loop tour that will drop you off right back where you started!
- Cabin Run Covered Bridge, one of three covered bridges in Plumstead Township, is named for the number of log cabins and stone houses constructed along its course.
- The shortest covered bridge in the county, Erwinna Covered Bridge is known for its lattice-type construction and is one of three covered bridges in Tinicum Township.
- While it was destroyed by a fire in 1991, Schofield Ford Covered Bridge was rebuilt similar to the original in 1997. It now resides in Tyler State Park and is the longest covered bridge in the county.
- Also known as “Slifer’s Bridge”, Knecht’s Covered Bridge in Springfield Township, is built in the valley where German Settlers established some of their homesteads in the 1700’s.
- The only covered bridge that crosses the Delaware Canal, Uhlerstown Covered Bridge is also one of the oldest, built in 1832.
