A house on Durham Road in Middletown was damaged Thursday afternoon in a gas-fed fire.

The homeowner escaped the flames that spread from the basement to the first-floor, William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Bamfield said.

Firefighters from several companies were quick to arrive, secure the home’s gas service and put out the fire, Bamfield said.
“It only took about four minutes to put [the fire] out,” the deputy chief told LevittownNow.com.
Crews were called to the home in the 1600 block of Durham Road at 1:10 p.m.

PECO workers also responded and were able to cut gas and electric service to the house, Bamfield said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews from Langhorne-Middletown, Levittown No. 2, Newport and Penndel fire companies assisted firefighters from the William Penn Fire Company. Police, the fire marshal’s office and Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad were also on the scene.
