The new convenience store and gas station at the corner of Wistar and New Falls roads opened amid much fanfare on Friday morning. The location even offered free coffee and other incentives to lure in locals.

Bristol Township Council President Bob Lewis heralded the company’s investment in the community and talked about the new jobs the location is bringing.

The store has about 40 full- and part-time employees, many of whom came from the former store across the street, said general manager Bob Kelly, a Levittown resident.

The new store will be open 24/7 and has a backup power generator installed so it can stay open during power outages.

Wawa officials gave LevittownNow.com a tour of the store. The fresh food preparation area is bigger than most at other Wawas and is part of a new design the company is rolling out. Included in the store will be expanded selection of products like milkshakes and prepared items. Company officials were proud to show off a new soda dispenser that will provide customers with 150 flavor combinations.

As part of the opening, a Hoagies for Heroes competition was held. The store pitted Bristol Township police and firefighters from Levittown Fire Company No. 2 against each other in a hoagie building competition.  After some harsh talk and deli meat throwing, the police department won the contest.

The company will be donating $2,000 on behalf of the fire company and police union to the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund.

The store replaces the old Wawa across the street. Company officials said former store manager Tony has accepted a new position at a Middletown location.

Township officials said Wawa has worked for several years before getting approval last year to building the new location. The new store comes with improvements to the busy intersection of Wistar and New Falls road.
