Christmas Season Arrives in Bristol

Christmas season officially arrived in Bristol Borough Friday morning with the placement of this year’s Christmas tree at the base of Mill Street.

Borough officials said the tree came from Newtown Township and made the about 30 minute trip to the borough Friday morning with help from Jim’s Tree Service and Levittown-based JMW Equipment Company.

Workers prepped and set the 38 foot Blue Spruce as about a dozen or so community members stopped to watch. The crews set the tree in front of Bristol Lions Park.

Meanwhile, borough-based Santa’s Helping Hands, a nonprofit that collects and distributes gifts to children, has been taking in dozens of requests for help this year.

The nonprofit seeks to bring joy and happiness to children of families dealing with challenging financial hardships

Executive Director of the nonprofit, Gabrielle Favoroso said requests started coming in prior to Halloween this year and she’s doing all she can to help Santa bring wonderment to the lives of children in the area.

Lastly but certainly not least, a new arrival to the  borough, The Christmas Gala, a nonprofit focused on assisting older adults in Bucks County, moved into their new home on Radcliffe Street recently.

Cheryl Campbell, president of the organization, said finding a home in Bristol for her ever growing and evolving nonprofit specifically geared to meet the needs of older adults in the area. The office space was a goal she worked on all year long and was like a Christmas present coming early. Campbell said she hopes The Christmas Gala can continue too branch out and grow by helping more older adults in need.

Borough public works department workers on Monday morning were scheduled to begin decorating both sides of Mill Street with lights and wreaths as part of the final stage of preparing the borough for upcoming holiday festivities.

Those workers will be greeted with freezing cold rain and temperatures;  another sign of the season on the the other side of sunny wintry mornings
