Property owners in Langhorne Borough will pay a bit more in local taxes next year.
The borough council voted last week to increase property taxes by 4 mills instead of putting a earned income tax (EIT) in place.

Borough manager Scott Mitchell said the property tax increase will cost the owner of an average assessed property about $120 per year and bring in an additional $60,000 to the town government.
The public packed the borough council chambers to speak against the EIT, which takes the tax from a portion of a person’s wages.
Officials said in October that the borough needs the extra income to pay for several projects, a proposed expansion in police coverage and also to begin saving for future capital projects.

Council members debated the EIT and property tax issue at recent meetings before last week’s vote.
Also at last week’s meeting, the council swore in two new police officers, Mitchell said.

The council is expected to vote on a $480,000 proposed budget at their December meeting.
