A proposed Earned Income Tax (EIT) will be discussed by the Langhorne Borough Council at a work session set for Thursday evening.
The work session will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the borough hall, according to Borough Manager Scott Mitchell.

During last month’s council meeting, advertising a potential 1 percent EIT was approved 5-2.
The proposed tax would be for employed residents and those who work in the borough. Residents who do not earn income, like the retired, would not have to pay. In Pennsylvania, 95 percent of townships in the state have an EIT, including Bristol Township, Middletown and Newtown. While some boroughs, including Bristol and Penndel, do not currently have an EIT.

An EIT could bring as much as $80,000 to the borough. However, some council members mentioned other options like possibly raising property taxes.

Officials said the borough needs the extra income to pay for several projects, a proposed expansion in police coverage and also to begin saving for future capital projects.
The borough has posted an EIT information page on its website.

The council is set to further discuss and possibly vote on the EIT at its November 12 meeting.
