Bristol Twp. Recalls 2 Officers

Bristol Township officials announced Friday that they are recalling two furloughed police officers.

In response to inquiries sent by LevittownNow.com early Friday morning, Township Manager Bill McCauley sent out a press release with the announcement several hours later.

“I am very pleased to announce that we have recalled two police officers from the original reduction in the work force in 2012,” McCauley said in the release.

“We still have $81 million in unfunded liabilities and horrible inherited contracts, but for the first time in the history of Bristol Township, we are taking our medicine and making good, courageous, long-term decisions for the benefit of all taxpayers and not just a few,” he also said.

Bristol Township Police Benevolent Association President Tim Fuhrmann said Friday that he had heard about the recall but was unsure if the paperwork had been completed as of yet.

Fuhrmann added that he was more than pleased about the recall of officers Shawn Lyons and Kelli Fronk.

Lyons on Friday afternoon said he hadn’t been told anything by township officials but was “pleased” to hear that Bristol Township Councilman Craig Bowen had confirmed the recall.

The story began to break late Thursday night as John Riotto, a member of the Civil Service Commission, announced on social media that two officers were going to be recalled and plans for three  more to be  hired in January were under way.

Fuhrmann said he was ecstatic about the news of adding three new officers if it was true.

McCauley didn’t address LevittownNow’s questions about reported plans to hire three new officers.

Officials said that about 1,200 have applied for jobs with the department.
