According to the probable cause affidavit, police located the vehicle Williams and his friend drove in at 21 Thomas Place, which is in the Orangewood Apartments, following the shooting. Within the vehicle were two males, one of which was Brandon Belton of Willingboro, New Jersey.

On July 24, police executed a search warrant on the apartment at 21 Thomas Place and located evidence including five large bags containing a substance suspected of being marijuana, a Glock model 27, a .40 handgun, a Ruger 9mm handgun and an iPhone with a cracked screen, according to court documents. In interviews with the police, Belton admitted to arranging sale of marijuana between Williams and Terrence Hedgepeth of Mount Laurel, N.J., who is the occupant of an apartment at 21 Thomas Place. During the interviews, Belton admitted that he was to receive $300 from Hedgepeth and Williams for arranging the sale, said official papers.

On August 14, during an interview with Hedgepeth, his attorney and police, Hedgepeth admitted to shooting Williams during an attempted transaction involving the sale of one bag of marijuana for $2,900.00, said the probable cause affidavit.
