For several months, some local residents have pushed an EIT tax in Falls Township. To their disappointment, the members of the Falls Twp. Board of Supervisors have been fairly adamant about avoiding the tax, for fear that more residents would see an increase in taxes, than not.
Back in July, LevittownNow.com did some research into the EIT tax, in an effort to highlight Fall’s decision and understand the money to be made by instituting such a tax in Falls. According to local experts, besides a few surrounding areas in Lower Bucks and Delaware counties, Pennsylvania is almost entirely an EIT-paying state.

Tuesday, the Falls Board of Supervisors heard a brief presentation from Econsult Solutions regarding the possibility of instituting such a tax in the township.
Falls, which paid for a study nearly ten years ago, decided to not move forward with beginning an EIT tax at the time, since not enough residents were paying the tax somewhere else, according to Chairman Bob Harvie. Those numbers, according to experts, have changed significantly since then.

An EIT tax is unique in that either the township where you work or where you live can institute one, however if your home township doesn’t have an EIT, the money that is paid stays within the township that you work.

Since some residents believe that most Falls residents work outside of the township and therefore already pay the tax, it is best in their eyes, to see the money paid, stay right at home.

On October 7, despite disapproval from both Harvie and Vice-Chairman Jeffry Dence, the board passed the proposal given by Econsult Solutions to conduct phase one of the study. Phase one will help the township better understand which residents are already paying the EIT tax in another municipality. Phase one will cost the township $7,000.
According to resident Guido Mariani, it doesn’t matter how many residents are already paying the EIT elsewhere. “Even if it’s a million dollars, that’s our money and it belongs here in Falls,” he said.
Econsult Solutions recently provided consultation to Middletown Township when they enacted their EIT tax last January.
