Philomene Johnson, a junior at Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, participated in a unique summer program at Lycoming College. Johnson attended Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) and was a member of the winning entrepreneurial team. She was awarded one share of stock and is eligible to receive a scholarship, should she apply and be accepted to Lycoming College.

PFEW offers rising high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to experience what it is like to run a business. Participants are assigned to management teams where they familiarize themselves with the Free Enterprise System. During the process, the teams are mentored by dedicated corporate executives.
Each team is charged with turning a failing company into a successful company. Students address all aspects of the turnaround process, from developing marketing strategies, to designing a website, to making executive type decisions that may affect a company’s success or failure. Johnson’s team “Atlas Skating Company,” a mock skateboard company, took the honor of Top Company.
