Rain Doesn’t Stop Historic Fallsington Day

Vendors and patrons pushed through a rainy Saturday to make Historic Fallsington Day a success.

The event, typically running on the second Saturday in October every year, had a rough start when rain refused to let up, and when it finally did, left a damp feeling on the event.

โ€œWe had a very wet start,โ€ said Kathleen Hannigan, a vendor selling various pieces of jewelery. According to Hannigan, traffic picked up at the festival around 1:30 p.m.

Joe, carrying a giant stuffed animal as a present for his cousin, noted: โ€œIt’s a fun place to be, it’s always fun coming back here.โ€

โ€œI had a better day than I expected,โ€ said Jan Bear. โ€œI was delighted that so many people came out to support the show,โ€ finished Bear, a vendor who has been attending the festival for many years.

One patron, Thomas Gerace, noted that some usual stands were missing, but that the event itself was โ€œcool and really fun.โ€

โ€œWe like it a lot,โ€ remarked Anthony Pinto, who recently moved to Fallsington with his family. โ€œIt’s good to see so many people out here.โ€ Pinto commented on the rain and the success of the event as well, saying โ€œI don’t think the rain detered too many people.โ€

This sentiment was not unanimous, however.

โ€œIt’s not like other years because of the rain,โ€ said Eddie Fischer. โ€œThey shouldn’t have it when [the weather] is like this.”

Fischer is a long-time resident of Fallsington, and noted that had he not been able to walk to the event, the rain would have persuaded him to stay home.

Fallsington, which began as a Quaker community in the 1600โ€™s, still features the same uniquely American architecture and small town values that encapsulated it hundreds of years ago.
