The Bucks County Department of Health has a number of programs and initiatives for women who want to be screened for Breast Cancer. An official said they want residents to know the programs during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Susan Ward, director of personal health services for he county department, said there are a number of facilities in Bucks County that provide screenings, support and links to other important and potentially life saving information.

Ward said there are expert researchers at the state office who review and compile clustering data for the disease currently especially when it comes a particular area of the state.
Nationally, breast cancer is among one of the top killers of women today and effects young and old and cuts across all ethnic groups.
Ward said early detection is paramount for women these days. She encourages women to do regular self checks as awareness and information are the best tools to defeat the deadly disease. Information from researchers and cancer specialists sends a similar message.

Ward said that in addition to county offered services, the Susan G. Komen Foundation offers helpful resources to women in the area. The Komen Foundation is hosting a free Breast Cancer Empowerment Event on Saturday, December 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Philadelphia Marriott. Partners for the event are Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Channel 3 and Channel 57 (The CW) and health Education partners are: Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Fox Chase, Crozer Keystone and the Rosenfeld Cancer Center at Abington Hospital.
