The timing might have worked out a little differently than planned for Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, but the duel effect might just work out in his favor. Last week, the House passed a small business bill he sponsored, which happened just days after his office announced of a small business boot camp set for this week in Middletown.
The Promoting Job Creation and Reducing Small Business Burdens Act [H.R. 5405] includes a package of 11 bills which make it easier for small businesses to grow and hire, creating more opportunity for all, according to a release from Fitzpatrick’s office.

Essentially, the package is a number of fixes Fitzpatrick wanted to see in place within the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
The measure, according to the House, seeks to enhance the ability of small and emerging growth companies so they can access capital through public and private markets, which would reduce regulatory burdens.
“American workers and workplaces need legislation that empower them to succeed and create a healthy economy. Too often what comes out of Washington are more regulations, higher taxes and heavier burdens that hold Americans back,” said the congressman.

The challenge ahead for Fitzpatrick’s measure now is getting bi-partisan support , for his bill from the Democratic controlled Senate as Election Day approaches.
Fitzpatrick addressed all of his colleagues on this point with remarks he made on the House Floor.

The congressman said it was critical leaders of both parties look at this example of bi-partisan accomplishment as a playbook for advancing common goals and breaking Washington gridlock as he called on the senate to act quickly on the bill that he asked them to cut “red tape” and provides businesses with the flexibility to create jobs and grow.

On the theme of small local business, Fitzpatrick is hosting a Small Business Boot Camp Wednesday September 24 at Carin University in Langhorne Manor from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The focus of the boot camp will be educating small business owners about economic trends that will help owners grow their businesses and linkage to federal resources that can help businesses grow and expand.
In addition, there will be expert guest speakers, presentations, and Q and A panels with experts, Fitzpatrick said in a release last week.

“Supporting our region’s small businesses is critical to growing a healthy economy that creates better jobs and more opportunity,” said Fitzpatrick. “My Small Business Boot Camp will be a one stop shop for small businesses and entrepreneurs looking to tap into resources available to them – from the federal programs to regional data.”

After passage of his bill Tuesday night Fitzpatrick pointed to the 8th district as an example of what his bill could do for businesses in the district.
“There are companies in and around Bucks County, Pennsylvania – the area that I am honored to represent – that have the resources to invest, right now, in small businesses. This bill will allow them to invest more of their resources in advancing American workers instead of spending money complying with needless regulations in Washington.”
