Here are today’s Letters to the Editors…

I was receiving emails from the Kevin Strouse for Congress campaign, and I also received a call requesting potential assistance with the campaign. Well, they piqued my interest. I did a little research and discovered Kevin was an Army Ranger. I figure, Fitzpatrick, always touting his Eagle Scout status, should lose handily to a real Army Ranger, but Bucks County voters have surprised me before.

I always voted for Patrick Murphy and was horrified to see Fitzpatrick win back the seat. I actually met Fitz at the train station where he was pamphleteering, glad-handing, and chatting up a friend of mine. He eyed me then asked for my vote as he handed me a glossy brochure of B.S. I told him straight to his face “I wouldn’t vote for you if my life depended on it!”
Fitz seemed somewhat taken aback. He referenced his political stances while asking me if there was anything I’d like to know. I told him I followed the news and knew exactly where he stood, and that we weren’t even standing in the same region. In my view he is against any type of progressive reform, has been a part of the least popular and most obstructionist Congress in history, and stands against the equal rights of all except rich white men.
The event I attended in Levittown was organized around the anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Kevin was introduced by the petite and bewitching County Commissioner Diane Marseglia, and accompanied by his two cute little tots and captivating wife Amy. Kevin mostly spoke to issues affecting women because the 19th Amendment was the genesis of the event and because issues affecting women are vital issues affecting us all. He boldly flat-out stated his support for reproductive freedom, choice, and support, all in stark contrast to the voting record of his opponent.
I threw in a question about corporate inversions and corporate tax rates near the end, but to be fair there was really insufficient time to effectively explain such a platform at that type of event. Kevin seemed to favor a “fair share” corporate tax rate, and to fund services that increase competitiveness such as education and infrastructure. For that compressed time frame I must say I was satisfied with his responses and he walked over to me after the speech to ensure that I was satisfied with his answer and offered to expound. I had lots more questions and suggestions but the crowd and the media needed Kevin so we parted, him knowing he had my vote, and me wondering whether to just vote for him or maybe to volunteer some time to help ensure that Kevin Strouse is our next Congressperson.
The alternative, the status quo, the misogynistic obstructionist Fitzpatrick, elected last cycle, is unthinkable. Throw that bum out! Elect Kevin Strouse!

I have been thinking about starting a Citizens Fire Academy, similar to what the police do, starting in the spring and want to know if there is an interest out there. I was thinking about doing it one night a week, for 4 or 5 weeks for a couple hours each. Some of the topics that I thought would be interesting would be:
- Hands on Fire extinguisher training
- A tour of the Ivyland 9-1-1 emergency call center
- A demonstration from the 3 township fire departments on what equipment they have and how it works
- A demonstration by an accelerant detecting K9 dog
- A basic training on first aid/CPR and AED training
- A tour of some of the local businesses and hotels showing what goes in to a yearly fire inspection.

These are just some preliminary thoughts that can be tweaked.
I have also thought about some type of week long fire training day camp for youngsters. This is still being worked on but may also be something that can be done.
