Provided by the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection:
Q. A couple of years ago I was at the Middletown Grange Fair and stopped by the Bucks County Government Tent. I was given a lot of useful information from various departments but I believe it was at your table that I had picked up a form to stop junk mail from being mailed to my home. I filled it out, sent it in and it really worked in eliminating most of that unwanted mail until recently. My mailbox seems to be filling back up with junk mail. Unfortunately, I only had one form and did not save a copy. I was wondering if you’re going to be at the Grange Fair again this year so I can pick up a copy of the booklet that has the form in it. Could you also please remind me of the name of the booklet?

A. Yes, the Bucks County Consumer Protection Department, along with other, various county departments, will be at the Grange Fair again this year beginning on Wednesday, August 13 and through Sunday, August 17. I am happy to tell you that we do still have the form you are referring to and will have a supply at our table at the fair. It is a popular form as it definitely helps consumers put a halt to getting junk mail that fills up their mailboxes. At our departments table you will also find many other helpful and informational brochures geared towards a variety of consumer concerns. The “registration form for mailing preferences” that you are referring to originates from the Direct Marketing Association and is still part of our “Helpful Contact” booklet.
Make sure you do keep a copy of this form. As you do business with different or new companies your contact information becomes accessible again and you will see an increase in “junk” mail. Most often the parent companies of stores that you most recently have done business with will then start sending you sale flyers, etc. That is why we advise that, when you notice that the amount of junk mail that you are receiving has increased, it is time to re-send the form.
If you are unable to pick up a new form at our table at the fair, you can visit our webpage for a brochure that will give you information about opting-out as well as how to contact the Direct Marketing Association in order to get a form. You can also visit our webpage to obtain a copy of our “Helpful Contacts” booklet. See links below.
