Looking at the pictures from the scene it is hard for many to believe the three people in a minivan crushed by a trash truck survived Tuesday afternoon’s accident at Veterans Highway (Route 413) and I-95 in Bristol Township. However, they did and the three family members suffered only minor injuries. A Falls Township police officer who is skilled in motor carrier inspections is assisting Bristol Township officers looking over the trash truck, Acting Chief Lt. John Godzieba told LevittownNow.com.
Police said the crash happened when the truck lost control and rolled onto the 2008 Honda minivan, which was traveling along with the truck off the I-95 exit and onto northbound Veterans Highway.

The minivan contained a family made up of a 52-year-old male driver, a 51-year-old female passenger and a 17-year-old male passenger, police said. Firefighters from several companies were called in and freed the trapped teenager. All three were taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus and released shortly after.

The truck was driven by a 56-year-old Levittown man, according to police. It was not clear as of press time if the man worked for Republic, whose branding was on the trash truck.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said he arrived on scene moments after the crash and spotted a large truck from nearby Rob’s Towing. The truck pulled over and was used to stabilize the large trash truck following the nasty-looking wreck.

Bystanders said first responders and those waiting in trafficwere quick to react. Many said they were just shocked that no one was killed.
Bristol Township Fire Police directed traffic around the crash until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday while traffic investigators worked the scene.
