Volunteers Sought for Welcoming the Stranger Program

Volunteers are needed for the Bucks County Welcome the Stranger program through English as a Second Language (ESL) classes that strengthen confidence and build a learning community for people from all over the world.

Classes teach all aspects of the English language including reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, along with grammar rules, vocabulary comprehension and conversation skills for each student.

The Welcome the Stranger Program Coordinator will provide volunteers:

  • Training – ย ย A flexible adjustment period (volunteers can observe leader teaching for as many classes as they need before taking over a group themselves).
  • Teaching Tools โ€“ Volunteers are provided with lesson plans, lots of support and the freedom to create a lesson and teach in your own style and comfort level.
  • MaterialsFolders are given with lesson plans for that evening, groups sizes vary.

Volunteers will be interviewed and clearances processed to begin this assignment in the Fall 2014.
