Community College Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Science Building

Bucks County Community College will be adding a new, state-of-the-art science building.

Ground on the 34,700-square-foot-building at the Newtown campus was broken on Thursday during a ceremony that included college officials along with local business and government leaders.

The two-story building will be home to to the biology and chemistry areas of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) department. Included in the new facility will be 11 science labs, a lecture room, a computer lab and support labs. Taking after other recent building projects at the campus, the new building will take advantage of a geothermal system.

A curved, two-story glass wall will lead into two-story Student Commons area, which will feature open lounge spaces and rooms for collaboration and study.

The Doylestown Intelligencer reported the project will cost $17 million and work will begin in fall. The project comes weeks after the school raised tuition rates for the fall.

The college has campuses in Bristol Township, Newtown and Upper Bucks County.
