Workers came in Tuesday morning and began removing the trees across the street from the under-construction Wawa in the area of Wistar Road and Appletree Drive in Bristol Township. The work lasted into the late afternoon.

“I can’t believe they had to take down all these beautiful trees,” a neighbor told LevittownNow.com via the phone. “These trees had big, green leaves and everything.”

Residents were informed recently via letter that New Falls Road would need to be expanded to include a turn lane. The expansion required the trees being taken down. However, the letter does not mention the trees coming down, residents said.

Crews from Paul and John’s Tree Service worked throughout the day to remove the large trees that have been there for decades. Cones and workers stopped traffic periodically as the massive trees were brought down and removed. The smell of gasoline and saw dust filled the afternoon air by the Bucks County Technical High School.

The Wawa along with its six gas pumps was approved last summer by Bristol Township Council. It was announced at that time that sidewalks and road improvements would be needed. Few residents came out to oppose the Wawa.

Wawa officials were not available for comment when LevittownNow.com called on Tuesday and Wednesday.
