The Service Learning Team at F.D.R Middle School is a group of students dedicated to taking learning from the classroom and using it to help the community.  This year, the club decided to focus their efforts on promoting recycling.  The group has swept into action by “rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty” at various cleanup events as well as helping to organize a school-wide assembly to explain the importance of single stream recycling in the Township.

The student group also just returned from Sunrise, Florida where they were selected as one of 15 schools from around the country to present an environmental project at Wheelabrator’s 20th Annual Environmental Symposium.  The Symposium is a program for middle school students to create innovative solutions to environmental issues. While in Florida, the Club received the “Best Community Partnerships Award” for their significant efforts in partnering with politicians and community leaders in Bucks County.

At the Council Meeting, Council President Bob Lewis thanked the group and commented that “it’s great to see students that want to make a difference in the community and promote a greener environment here in Bristol Township.”
