Copper Thieves Cut Fuel Line, Cause Gas Spill at Church

A vacant Bristol Borough church was broken into and burglarized on Thursday afternoon. The theft of copper piping from the building’s basement caused  a potential hazard condition when the fuel line was cut, officials said.

Borough Code Enforcement Officer John Miller said 100 gallons of  fuel oil spilled into the basement when the thieves cut a copper fuel oil supply line.

Miller said The Church of the Nazerene on the 200o block of Wilson Avenue has been vacant for several years.
The spill was contained and the property owners are working to clean up the damage, Miller said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Bristol Borough Police Department. Patrolman Dean Johnson is the investigating officer.

Miller said the structure has been  condemned.
