Michael Lees may not be the world’s best uncle.

According to Falls Township police, Lees, 19, of Levittown, fell asleep in an apartment and his nephew, a toddler about 2 years old, got out in the middle of the night. When police went to look for the 19-year-old, they found him asleep and apparently under the influence of drugs.

Officers responded to the Village of Pennbrook apartments in Mill Creek Road around 1:30 a.m. September 18 after a resident found a young child crying loudly under a tree on a chilly night, court papers say. Police said they tried to find the guardian of the child, who was cold and shivering, but were unsuccessful at first.
The boy reportedly told police his name and told them his mom was working. He added that Lees was watching him. After 14 minutes, the boy lead officers to Lees apartment and found the door open, according to court papers.
Police said they knocked and announced themselves but no one came to the door. Lees was found sleeping in the apartment by two officers, police said.

A “strong odor of marijuana” was detected in the apartment, police said.
“Lees did finally wake up and appeared high. Lees’ eyes were dilated and [he] was very confused,” according to court documents.
Suspected marijuana in plain view in the apartment was confiscated and the child was returned to his mother, police said.
