Introduced in 1953, the Rancher sold for $1,000 less than the Levittowner and included a second floor that could be finished into an extra bedroom. It proved especially popular with couples planning large families. Credit:
An advertisement from the 1950s for a Levittown Rancher house, which sold just under $9,000 at the time. The advertised payment plan is $57 a month. Can you even imagine that today? The Rancher proved to be one of the most popular models in the community of over 17,000 homes.
