Charles Boehm Middle School, a secondary school in the Pennsbury School District, was named the 2014 State School of Character by the Pennsylvania affiliate of the Character Education Partnership (CEP). The CEP, based in Washington, D.C., is a national advocate and leader for the character education movement. The State Schools of Character program recognizes growth and excellence in the area of student character development through the CEP’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education framework.

“In Pennsbury, we are committed to the priority goal to increase student achievement and improve school culture through character education,” said Donna Dunar, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. “Charles Boehm Middle School is a perfect example of striving to do one’s best, cultivating a caring and respectful environment in which students are safe and happy to learn with a curriculum that provides students an understanding of the world with the pro-social skills to confront it. We are over the moon about this well-deserved recognition of Charles Boehm Middle School. All of our schools are striving to be Schools of Character. Charles Boehm Middle School was recognized nationally in 2013 by the CEP with two Promising Practices awards. Those honors recognized the school’s ongoing partnerships with local community organizations. “To be named this year as the state’s singular School of Character in 2014 is a tremendous thrill,” said Theresa Ricci, Principal of Charles Boehm Middle School. “Our staff, students, and parents take pride in creating a school community filled with respect, responsibility, and caring. Their hard work and dedication contribute not only to Boehm’s academic success, but also to its nurturing environment.”
