Did you know? During 2012, almost 30,000 firearms were reported purchased or transferred in Bucks County. In an effort to heighten public awareness of Firearm Safety, Bucks County Sheriff Edward “Duke” Donnelly and his staff have partnered with Bucks County Safe Kids led by St. Mary Medical Center and the Bucks County Bar Association to publish a “Firearm Safety” brochure.

Through the partnership, 10,000 full-color Firearm Safety brochures have been printed for public distribution. The outreach will be directed to firearm dealers and retailers, government offices and locations where guns are used for sport. They also will be distributed through local firearm safety courses taking place throughout Bucks County.
“The most recent estimates show that approximately three-quarters of American households have guns,” Sheriff Donnelly explained. “It is imperative that gun owners follow safety guidelines to keep weapons away from children and others who should not have access. This brochure shares common sense tips to help enhance public safety.”
The tri-fold brochure includes Firearm Safety Guidelines, tips to teach children and adolescents to avoid and be very cautious around guns, and information about finding local firearm safety courses. It was produced “on concerns about firearm safety for our county residents, especially our children.”
