An Allentown man was found guilty of killing a Pennsbury graduate and former Levittown resident Friday by a Lehigh County jury.
Jonathan Schaffer, 33, was immediately sentenced to life in prison after the verdict came down, according to a report from the Associated Press.

During his trial, Schaffer claimed he stabbed his 31-year-old girlfriend – 1999 Pennsbury High School graduate Lauren Wolstenholme – to death in an act of self defense inside the Allentown apartment they shared, multiple media reports said. Schaffer said he stabbed her to get her off of him after Wolstenholme began attacking him.
“I was poking anywhere I could. I couldn’t get her off me,” Schaffer testified, according to LehighValleyLive.com.
Schaffer’s mother testified earlier that her son called and said he’d killed Wolstenholme, but she heard the victim in the background calling for help and exclaimed, “She’s still alive!”
After a five-second pause, Donna Schaffer says her son returned to the phone and said, “She’s not anymore.”

The Allentown Morning Call noted that Wolstenholme’s family and Schaffer agreed to hold sentencing immediately following the verdict in a “rare move.”
