Bristol Township School District’s former bus contractor is suing the school system for just under $900,000.
First Student, which operated school buses in the township for several years before their contract was not renewed in 2013, says in court papers the district failed to pay $879,971. The missed payments happened between March and June of 2013.

It is noted in court papers that the district made an one-time payment of $1 million to the Ohio-based company in November, according to court papers filed in Doylestown within the past week. That payment deviated from the agreed upon schedule of monthly payouts that related to invoices.
First Student suing for breach of contract and is seeking the $879,971, as well as interest and court costs.
The contract the district is accused of breaching ran from July 1, 2008 until June 30, 2013.

“First Student repeatedly demanded payment of the outstanding invoices,” court papers read.
At this week’s school board meeting, no comment on the suit was given.

The district did not opt to re-sign with First Students after the two sides could not come agreeable financial terms, Superintendent Dr. Samuel Lee said last summer.
First Student and the district received numerous complaints from parents during the final years of their last contract. The district switched busing services starting in September 2013. New bus service provider, Student Transportation of America (STA) and the school district signed a five-year deal with the New Jersey company. The district expects have considerable savings over the course of the contract.
