Warming Hearts Founder Waives on Charges She Assaulted a Cop While Drunk

Meghann Morris has struggled with alcoholism and was giving back to her community as sobriety teaches at one time. However, on October 4 she relapsed and while intoxicated damaged a local business, spit on officers and ย was committed for mental health treatment at a local hospital, police say.

Wednesday at Bristol Borough District Court, after a number of postponements, Morris faced the consequences of her lapse back into the depths of dependence as one charge was dropped and others waived on to the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.

Kelly in October showed up to business on the 200 block of Mill Street “intoxicated.” She damaged signs and was arguing with the business owner when officers arrived on scene, according to court documents.

Police and the business owner asked Morris to leave the premises that day in October. However, she refused according to court documents, ย a minor struggle ensued between officers and Morris and she attempted to pull away from officers.

The 27-year-old Levittown woman, who coordinated efforts to have coats donated for the homeless, was taken into custody and while in a jail cell at borough police headquarters she started to bang her head on the cell door repeatedly, police say, then dropping to the floor which led officers to enter the cell to check on her well being.

While officers were in the cell with Morris trying to assess if she had injured herself, Morris rolled over and spit on the responding officer hitting his face and uniform, court records say.

Morris was transported by the Bensalem EMS for treatment to a local medical facility, police say. While being evaluated, she attempted to spit and bite the same officer, the affidavit of probable cause said.

Authorities committed Morris for involuntary mental health treatment once her alcohol levels came down.

Morris founded the Bristol Borough-based Warming Hearts Project. However, she has remained distant from the program over the last six months, sources say. She remained quiet throughout the hearing as she stood her in jail issued orange garb.

At Wednesday’s hearing Morris had one charge dropped of aggravated assault however her other charges of aggravated assault ย and resisting arrest, plus related offenses were waived on to the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas on February 14.

Morris became known locally for her work with the homeless.

Morris is now in Bucks County jail, according to online court records, on 10 percent of $5,000.
