Bucks County Unemployment Drops


New data shows the seasonally-adjusted November 2013 unemployment rate for Bucks County and Pennsylvania has dropped in the past year.

Data from the state Dept. of Labor and Industry shows the unemployment rate for Bucks County has gone from 7.4 percent in November 2012 to 6.7 percent in November 2013, the most recent month numbers are available for. The data is seasonally adjusted, which means it minimizes the impact of holiday/seasonal hiring.

The state unemployment level was .3 percent higher than the national average of 7 percent. While the state percent of unemployed is lower than last year, it does not prove the economy is improving as some had hoped. The data showed the number of unemployed people looking for work fell, which is an indication many have stopped looking.

The transportation and utilities sector along with education and health services saw the biggest gains in jobs year over year. Manufacturing saw less people working in the sector than last year.
