New Year’s Day High-Speed Chase Reached Speeds of 120 MPH, Cops Say


A man under the influence of marijuana kicked off a high-speed chase early New Year’s Day, according to state police

Bruce Clark, 19, of Trenton, was pulled by over by a trooper less than an hour into the new year along I-95 in Middletown. As the trooper approached the Chevrolet Malibu with Florida plates that Clark was driving, the car took off and a police pursuit began, court papers say.

State police report the chase reached speeds of 120 MPH and Clark weaved the Malibu in and out of traffic with “disregard for other motorists.”

With assistance from Bensalem police, the trooper was able to conduct a felony traffic stop on Clark, who was then arrested by police.

Court papers say police detected the strong smell of marijuana. Clark admitted to smoking the drug and had a small amount in his pocket, authorities said.

The initial traffic stop was triggered when police tracked the Malibu whizzing by at 80 MPH. The speed limit of I-95 is 55 MPH.

Clark is charged with fleeing or attempting to allude a police officer, small amount of marijuana, recklessly endangering another person, driving without a license, speeding, reckless driving, careless driving and two counts of DUI. He was arraigned at 5 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge John Waltman and sent to county jail on 10 percent of $20,000.
