Woman Was Approached in Supermarket Lot by Off Duty Officer

Social media exploded Thursday night ย when reports surfaced about a person approaching a woman with her children in the Acme parking lot in Bristol Township.

Allegedly, the person identified himself as an undercover authority and directed the woman ย to turn over her children. A widely-circulated social media post says the woman was understandably frightened,ย grabbed her children,”ran inside” and called authorities.

Lt. Terry Hughes, of the Bristol Township Police Department, explained to Levittownow.com on Friday afternoon that an off duty Bucks County police officer ย approached the woman and her children in the parking lot of the grocery store. because he saw something he construed to be potential criminal activity.

The off-duty officer, Hughes said, saw what he thought was a drug transaction take place and investigated.

“She ย wasn’t searched or her vehicleย and once the officerย was satisfiedย with the woman’s answers sheย was allowedย to go on her way,” Hughes said.

Hughes said he understood it was a ย “little upsetting for victim” but she was detained briefly andย questioned by the plain clothed officer.

The officer’s name ย was not provided by officials and from a police perspective the matter is now closed.
