By late Tuesday morning, the sun was out and the four inches of snow that feel across the Levittown area was beginning to melt. Ice formed on wet pavement as darkness began to fall and temperatures dropped below freezing once again.

The National Weather Serivice’s Mount Holly office issued a special weather statement warning locals of the ice threat. Their forecast calls for temperatures to hit around 20 overnight.

PennDOT and local crews are expected to have their hands full overnight as the icy spots build. PennDOT said in a statement 182 trucks are prepared to spread salt on state roads in the five-county Philladelphia area.

“During winter storms our equipment operators have a tremendous amount of responsibility as they plow snow, monitor computers that control the flow of salt, and keep their eyes on traffic and possible roadside obstacles,”  PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said last week. “We urge motorists to provide extra space to snow plow operators so they can perform their jobs safely and effectively.”
