A man has been charged with driving under the influence and other serious offenses in connection with a crash last month that nearly claimed one of his passengers’ life.
Devon Michael Bey, 25, of Bristol Township’s Levittown section, is facing 17 charges including aggravated assault while DUI and accident involving death or personal injury. He was arraigned this week before District Judge Joanne V. Kline and sent to county lockup on 10 percent of $50,000.

Bey was allegedly intoxicated behind the wheel a 1998 Jeep SUV when it left Bath Road and struck a tree just outside the police station around 10:30 p.m. on November 4. Two male passengers were in the vehicle with Bey at the time of the crash, police said. Firefighters from several companies arrived and extricated the trapped passengers.

According to court papers, Bey ran from the scene as his two passengers sat trapped in the vehicle, which police officer Thomas Polistina wrote suffered “massive damage.”
One passenger suffered a broken tailbone; the other nearly died of their injuries, which included a broken skull, clavicle, arm and multiple ribs, police said.

Numerous bystanders attending a football game were able to give responding officers a detailed description of Bey.
Bey was found hiding in bushes in a nearby neighborhood. Police said the 25-year-old reeked of alcohol and admitted to drinking before the crash. He also reportedly fessed up to having a previous DUI and a suspended license.

Witnesses said they spotted the Jeep trying to pass a vehicle on the curve of the roadway, police said, adding the vehicle spun before hitting the tree.
Results from the crime lab showed Bey had a blood alcohol level of .122 and marijuana in his system.
