A series of accident on Route 1 caused delays throughout Bensalem and Middletown Friday evening.

At least four accidents were reported between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the busy highway. Delays stretched on the southbound lanes from the area of the Bensalem Turnpike interchange past the Maple Avenue interchange.

At least one accident just on the other side of the Middletown border blocked traffic and sat more than 20 minutes before Bensalem authorities arrived. Just a short distance ahead, Bensalem police were handling what appeared to be a minor accident on the shoulder of the highway.
