In an effort to recognize and promote Internet safety during National Cyber Security month, students in 7th grade Emerging Technology and Skills classes at Maple Point Middle School have engaged in activities to proactively support safe activities on the Internet and demonstrate how to be a model digital citizen.ย Throughout the month, students have been actively involved in:

– Creating public service announcements to be read during the school day, sharing important Internet and cyber security tips.
-Transferring knowledge and technology skills learned in class to create Internet safety slogans that are currently on display throughout the school.ย Sample slogans have included:
- “Think it before you type it.”
- “Don’t dare over share.”
- “Prevent a jam, don’t open spam.”
- “Don’t be a fool, cyberbullying is not cool.
- “Don’t be mean and hide behind the screen.”
- “Don’t open your door to a stranger.”
- “Keep your information or it will be a big operation.”
- “Insults on the internet never go away, therefore, nice things are the only things you should say.”
- “Be a cyberbuddy, not a cyberbully.”
- “Shred it or you will regret it.”
-Evaluating digital comic strip software and technology to deliver a visual message from a student-created storyboard, communicating slogans in a different format now on display throughout the school.

Ten years ago in a collaborative effort, the US Department of Homeland Security and NCSAM (National Cyber Security Alliance) designated October as National Cyber Security month.
