Bucks County student Aashna Mago was in the nation’s capital Friday to receive a national scholarship worth $25,000 Friday and meet with Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8).
Mago, 17, from Newtown is a student at the Lawrence School, is being awarded the scholarship by the Davidson Fellows Scholarship for extraordinary achievement in science for her project ‘A Novel EZH2 Histone Methyltransferase Inhibitor: Potential Advancement in Epigenetic Cancer Therapy. ‘

“It was an honor to meet with Congressman Fitzpatrick here in Washington DC,” said Mago. “I am excited and grateful to learn that he supports funding for STEM education and strengthening the education system in general.”
The Davidson Fellows Scholarship program offers scholarships to students 18 or younger, who have created significant projects that have the potential to benefit society in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship has provided more than $5.3 million in scholarship funds since its inception in 2001, and has been named one of the most prestigious undergraduate scholarships by U.S. News & World Report.

Fitzpatrick has sponsored and championed a number of pieces of legislation that advance STEM education in our nation’s schools. This summer he worked with local schools, businesses and workforce development groups to devise strategies to support student interest and success into high-tech, STEM jobs in American manufacturing.
