There are ice cream drives, bingo fundraisers, fairs, festivals, walks and runs all in the name of supporting an initiative ย important to communities throughout the country.

Pursuit of a given goal or idea, in those cases, is the winner.

Lower Bucks HeartChase is a synergy of the best aspects of life; family, fun, health, community, education, ย rolled up into one offering the end goal of wellness, said Development Director for HeartChase Bettina McClure. It’s an event where everyone wins!

The event scheduled for Sunday, September 29 beginning at 12 p.m. with a warm up, music, dancing, ย and a DJ ย will cover the course used for the Mill Street run, McClure said.

“We when we came up with HeartChase,” she said, “we were looking to do something different from other health based initiatives.”

“We wanted to go outside the box. So people could learn about heart health in a way unlike others. We wanted it to be dynamic,” McClure said.

An American Heart Association (AHA) driven concept, HeartChase is ย “an innovative community event that provides a fun, new way to promote healthy living and support a great cause,” says the AHA website.

“I like the event for families,” said Dr. Charlie Flood of ย Lower Bucks Total Health and Wellness Center. “These days in our instant messenger society, families don’t have a lot of time together and it’s a good way for a family to learn about heart healthy ways of ย living together ย where a one hour workout isn’t required and ย learn about wellness together.”

HeartChase, set to be in full pursuit in Bristol on Sunday beginning at ย 12 p.m., involves teams of two – five members working together, answering questions, solving puzzles, and completing challenges for a given team to win the event ย all while working out your heart, Flood said.

“If you’re concerned, such as, with finishing first, or about finishing first, ย that’s not the challenge here. First one across the finish line doesn’t necessarily win,” Flood said.

“The team that earns the most points wins” he said.

Everybody that comes out and participates and benefits, said McClure, pointing out stroke and cardiovascular diseases are the nation’s number one and four killers, according to the AHA.

Flood and McClure said Lower Bucks Hospital with a number of Bristol and Lower Bucks-based businesses have provided support in a way they didn’t think was possible when the idea for HeartChase first came to fruition.

“The response from the community has been unbelievable, Flood, said, and what’s amazing is there’s still time for others in the community to get involved by forming a team, of their own. the deadline is ย 5 p.m. ย  Thursday to register online,” he said.
