The former Middletown Tax Collector and current Democratic candidate for the office released a statement this week calling out current Republican incumbent Ray Chapman for owing the nearly $26,000 in back taxes.
According to Kearns, Chapman has liens filed against him for 2011 and 2012, which total $25,967.93. A previous lien filed for owed taxes in 2010 was paid off in 2011.

Chapman said he is set up with a payment plan through the county for back taxes he owes.
Chapman, who makes $150,000 in his current post as tax collector, said that his family hit hard financial times in 2009 when his daughter past away from cancer and bills began to come due, said.
“I’m being truthful about this,” he told LevittownNow.com.

Kearns said that Chapman owns several other businesses and makes a “large” salary as tax collector.
“Many people struggle to pay taxes, but they pay them when due, no matter the hardship. Chapman is paid handsomely as tax collector and yet doesn’t pay his own taxes,” Kearns said.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports that county officials told them Chapman made his June payment on time and is in good standing.
