An e-mail circulated a little after 11 a.m. on Friday to all council members that Monday night’s council meeting is cancelled. Mayor Robert Lebo confirmed the cancellation of the meeting.
The electronic message, cited lack of a “quorum” as the reason for the cancellation.

Councilman and mayoral candidate Pat Sabbatini was surprised by the cancellation and wondered aloud about poor planning.
“We could have held the meeting and work session two weeks ago, prior to the beginning of the St. Ann Carnival,” he said.
“It’s the first time in my 16 years on council, I can remember a council meeting has been cancelled due to lack of quorum. I realize some council members plan their vacations around the carnival but there is no reason why we couldn’t have had the meetings and gotten the work done that needs to be done,” he said.

“We could have met the week prior to the carnival beginning,” said Councilman Tony Devine.
“I just don’t understand the planning. It makes no sense to me,” Devine offered.

Mayor Lebo said he was kind of surprised but wasn’t aware tonight’s meeting was canceled until this reporter shared that information with him.
“That’s news to me,” he said.
Sabatini and Devine suspect something else is going on.

“Now we don’t meet till after Labor day in an election year, Devine said, you have to wonder and ask yourself what’s really going on here.”
A council source said, “Tony and Pat are here. Ralph was at the carnival on Friday. Gregg (Pezza) said he was in the area as of Friday, and Robyn was seen on Mill St. Saturday. So that leaves Betty and Leo unaccounted for. But of course who knows where they’ll be come Monday.”
