The township announced earlier in the week the additional security measures in the wake of the shooting and murder of three people at a Ross Township Supervisors Meeting a week earlier.

Original Story About Use of Security Measures for Bristol Township Council Meeting
Sgt Moore of the Bristol Township police, assigned to oversee the implementation of the additional security said “there were no immediate threats at this time” adding its an effort on the part of the township to insure safety at council meetings for all.
Community members were greeted by signs on the doors entering the municipal building, explaining “all persons entering the council meeting will be subjected to a package bag search and must pass through the metal detector.”

Township Manage Bill McCauley said on Wednesday added security measures will be in place for an undetermined amount of time.
Township sources say discussions about implementing metal detectors had been ongoing since the early part of winter but were spurned on by the shootings in the Poconos.
