April Bacani, who has been out of work since March, waited in line inside the Ramada Hotel on Route 13. She was among hordes of people who applied for work at the soon-to-open Bottom Dollar Food store at the corner of Edgely Road and Mill Creek Parkway in Bristol Township’s Levittown section.
“At this point, I don’t care what I have to do,” the former social worker said. “I just want to feed my son.”

The Bristol Township resident said she is going to school to get her master’s degree and is willing to take any position the grocery store can offer her. Times have been tough recently as her husband, a school teacher, is looking for full-time work, which so far has been elusive for the couple.
Bacani jointed hundreds of other people who applied to work at the 15,000 square-foot store throughout the day Wednesday at the company’s job fair.
A Levittown homeowner, who wished only to be identified as John, stood in the line and waited to get an application.

“I previously worked in engineering, but I’ve been out of work for nearly two years, except for a three month stretch where I was called back,” he said.
John said he hoped to find a sales position at the store.

Paul Hardy, who is a college student and former drug store manager, came out to the job fair in hopes of scoring a management position.
The young man said he is in the process of taking online classes and is currently out of work after a construction job he had ended recently.
It is not clear how many employees the store is hiring, but one can assume that only a fraction of the several hundred who applied Wednesday will be hired.

Bristol Township was hit hard by the economic downturn that started in 2008. Bristol Township’s unemployment rate has often been above the national average over the past few years.
