
The bus accident on southbound I-95 by the Levittown-Penndel exit in Middletown Township Monday afternoon was caused when two tires flew off the bus, according to state police.
Twenty nine elementary-aged children on he bus were transported by ambulance and another bus to St. Mary Medical Center for evaluation. Officials said the students avoided life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
According to state police at the Trevose barrack, the yellow bus was traveling in the right lane of the highway when the two left rear tires separated from rear axle.

The loss of the tires caused the bus to cross over the shoulder onto the grass embankment before striking the center median guide wires, police said. Investigation discovered that the bus traveled 57 feet along the guide wires before coming to a stop.

Authorities found one tire near the center median about 45 feet south of where the bus stopped, according to a written statement. Middletown firefighters using a heat camera found the second tire recovered from the brush line on the right shoulder.
The crash was reported at 3:22 p.m. and the highway was reopened just after 5 p.m.

The bus was chartered by a day camp and was heading from BouceU in Middletown to an unknown location, Middletown Township Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said Monday evening.
The Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad along with state and Middletown police were at the scene.
The investigation was handled by Trooper William Hogerhyde.
