The dreadful and consuming heat had no fury over those who participated in the 8th Annual Run The Gates, held Sunday at 9 am in Forsythia Crossings Park located in the Forsythia Gate section of Levittown.
Despite the heat, almost all registered runners showed up to the event to present their athletic abilities, and overall support of the three organizations Run The Gates has been determined for the last 13 years to protect.

Two runs brought together a growing number of community runners and volunteers. Over 200 registered to run in the five-mile run, while almost 100 registered in the one mile fun run. These two runs allowed members across the area, of all ages of course, to come together and support three ย Bucks County organizations: Delta Community Supports, Handicapped Crusaders, and the Bucks County Council for Individuals with Disabilities (BCCID).

These three organizations work in providing various services to those with physical and mental handicaps and challenges, and have been grateful receivers of the run’s donations since it all began some 13 years ago.
Shortly after Sean O’Neil, Neshaminy’s very own band teacher played the National Anthem, runners proceeded throughout the park and around the development where they raced in the heat to beat not only their opponents but their own previous time as well.

Although with these events where the community and organizations benefit greatly there is not one real winner, Jason Hagerman, 37 years-old, from Bensalem was the leading male runner in the five-mile run, finishing with a time of 31:31, while Maggie Kanak, 47 years-old, from Newtown was the leading female runner in the five-mile run, finishing with a time of 32:43.
