A Tullytown Borough police patrol vehicle was damaged Wednesday afternoon after it slammed into a pick-up truck while trying to avoid a loose dog on Levittown Parkway, the town’s top cop said.

Acting Chief of Police Daniel Doyle told LevittownNow.com no one was injured in the 4:35 p.m. crash, but the police car had to be towed from the scene.

Doyle said dash cam video from the recent model year police Ford Crown Victoria showed a dog running into traffic on Levittown Parkway in the area of Route 13 and the Dunkin Donuts. The police official said he suspects the officer veered into a neighboring lane of traffic to try to avoid the dog.

Bristol Township police traffic Sgt. Chuck Burns is handling the investigation into the crash, Doyle said. He added that calling in an outside agency to investigate a crash of a borough vehicle was not unheard of.

The police cruiser, with damage to its passenger side, is being stored in the borough garage.
